Using MPT® Engine Treatment as a ZDDP Substitute.

Until now, motor oil companies have used Zinc Dialky Dithophosphate (ZDDP) to reduce wear in camshafts and lifters. The use of ZDDP, however, shortens the life of your vehicle’s emissions system. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has mandated that the zinc level in motor oil be reduced to near zero, due to the harmful effects on catalytic converters and emissions systems. American Petroleum Institute (API) approved motor oils currently contain less than one tenth of a percent of ZDDP – a mere fraction of what was previously allowed – creating a serious deficiency in engine protection. Without ZDDP, modern day performance engines, as well as older engines with flat tappet valves, can experience premature wear, higher operating temperatures and premature engine failure because there is nothing to coat moving engine parts and prevent metal-to-metal contact. Additionally, manual transmissions and gearboxes where the manufacturer specifies the use of motor oil for lubrication would require a ZDDP substitute.

During the first few thousand miles of engine use, oils with a small amount of ZDDP provide sufficient break-in protection. ZDDP reduces wear, but can actually increase friction and reduce fuel mileage. Additionally, API approved oils have low levels of ZDDP and do not provide the long-term protection necessary in pre-1989 cars with non-roller lifters or today’s high performance engines. Supplementing your oil with the molybdenum/PTFE formulation of MPT Engine Treatment will provide superior protection by eliminating metal-to-metal contact. MPT Engine Treatment is guaranteed to eliminate premature deterioration of flat tappet valves and high performance motors after the initial break-in period by clinging to internal engine parts, thus reducing friction and wear. After a 3,000-5,000 mile break-in period, simply add 2 ounces of MPT Engine Treatment for every quart of motor oil (do not overfill). Subsequent oil changes require about one ounce per quart of motor oil.
